    The Poison Boyfriend, along with much of Momus’ musical output, received high praise upon its initial release, with the NME naming it one of the best albums of , and Fact Magazine later calling the release the 81st best album of the s.

    Recorded at The Chocolate Factory, New Cross, London. Produced by Julian Standen. My comment on the CD: Momus should have stuck with the three original CD extra tracks (but placed after the original vinyl LP tracks). The tracks don't belong on this album.

    Back in Momus was in a London studio finishing The Poison Boyfriend, his debut album for Creation Records. Band of Holy Joy had a session the next day, so the 27 year-old Scot left a note wishing his friends well and adding: "You've got real accordions — I just use the horrible pre-programmed one in the DX7!" Thi.

    The first disc compiles Poison Boyfriend (), Tender Pervert () and Don't Stop the Night (), with equal emphasis. Which is too bad, because the first of these is incredible and the last relatively forgettable. The second disc includes five songs from Hippopotamomus (), four from Voyager (), but only three from the superior Timelord ().

    MOMUS The Poison Boyfriend (Original UK 8-track vinyl LP including Violets, Sex For The Disabled and Closer To You. The picture sleeve has some light age yellowing to the edges but also retains the 'Doing It For The Kids' sticker on the fron t and apart from a little spindlewear to the label, the vinyl remains in excellent condition CRELP).
