H Beam Piper was one of my favorite authors from my youth. His stories often remind me of Robert Heinlein's Youth series, but a bit edgier. This story is a adventuresome romp with classic space opera motifs. The only grudging aspect is that it was written in the early s and microchip was not even on the RADAR of science fiction authors.4/5(81).

    H. BEAM PIPER is rather enigmatic where his personal statistics are concerned. It may be stated that he lives in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, that he is an expert on the history and use of hand weapons, that he has been writing and selling science-fiction for many years to the leading magazines, and that he is highly rated among readers for his skill and imagination.

In science fiction we have seen lots of spherical space ships. We remember the ships used by the Space Vikings by H. Beam Piper and the Death Star from Star Wars and the Heart of Gold from the The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and the ship from E.T. and the Borg Sphere from Star Trek: First Contact and lots of more.

To find each work in the anthology, you must go to the "Go To" section of your Nook, and then select "Chapter." It might get a blank screen--if it does, then hit the page forward button and the work will appear. Collected works of classic science fiction author H. Beam Piper with active table of contents.
