Importantly, Donkey Serenade was the record that saw us finally wipe the crippling debt the band had accumulated over the first ten years of our existence. It really marked the advent of us making strong decisions at management, marketing and merchandising levels and significantly it was a really fun record to play and one we were really proud of.

Mario Lanza – The Donkey Serenade Lyrics. There's a song in the air, But the fair senorita Doesn't seem to care For the song in the air. So I'll sing to the mule If you're sure she won't think that I am just a fool Serenading a mule. Amigo mio, does she not have a dainty bray?

The melodic material to this song was first used by Rudolf Friml in a piano piece, Chanson, which was later renamed Chansonette (). When Friml's successful operetta The Firefly was adapted to the screen in , he fashioned this song, "Donkey Serenade," from Chanson. He received assistance in the endeavor from composer Herbert Stothart.
