Comes with an insert. On this version there is no listing on the label for Side 1, Track 6 "There's A Riot Going On". Presumably it was thought to be surplus to requirement, as there is no sixth track on Side 1.

Lyrics to "Spaced Cowboy" by SLY AND THE FAMILY STONE: I can't say it more than once / 'Cause I'm thinking twice as fast. / Yodel-ayde-a. / Everything I like is nice / That's why I try to have it twice. / Yodel-ayde-a [etc.] / Well once I saw a bore, / Who was a social whore. / .

Instead of the previous bright, cheery rock-laced soul, ‘There's A Riot Goin' On’ is filled with dark instrumentation, filtered drum machine tracks, and plaintive vocals. Dubbed, over-dubbed and modernised, this album was groundbreaking, and black pop music was never the same again.

Riot is unlike any of Sly & the Family Stone's other albums. Stripped of the effervescence that flowed through his previous albums, it is a dark come down from the late '60's high. What makes Riot so remarkable is that it's hard not to get drawn in with him, as you're seduced by the narcotic grooves, seductive vocal slurs, leering electric /5(94).

Sly and the Family Stone came together around ’67, as Sly’s own project Sly and the Stoners crumbled around the same time as his younger brother Freddie’s band, Freddie and the Stone Souls. So there’s the first ‘real’ family: Freddie played guitar. More family came after the debut LP, in the form of keyboardist and sister Rose Stone.
