So in stringing along, our attempts at being the good guy end up making us the bad guy.” Brad*, a Duke University senior, knows this all too well. Caught up in a friends-with-benefits situation that was quickly turning into something more on the girl’s side, Brad knew that something had to be done, but he found his willpower lacking.

It’s a strategic way of keeping you around for long, compelling phone conversations and texts without having to actually date you. Sure, it’s a little manipulative, but it’s a normal thing for a person to want. While it sucks to be on the receiving end of it, you can’t fault a woman for just wanting a male friend.

Time to ask yourself: is she stringing me along? Old sitcoms and stereotypes like to paint men as creatures fearful of commitment. They act like men are constantly trying to avoid getting tied down in a relationship, while women wring their hands and cry over a man who won’t stay with her. That stereotypes complete bull, and you know it.

He talks about our future sometimes. He has asked me to go on a family trip with his parents and this gives me hope. But then I start to second guess everything and I wonder if he only asked because he knows that his mother loves me and he just wants to hold up appearances. And that’s when I start to wonder if he is just stringing me along.
